Ryan Gosling : style analysis

 Ryan Gosling has been around Hollywood for a while now, but suddenly he's starting to build some momentum in trying to be the main leading man in tinsel town. His style also has grown in stature as with his handsome looks and confident persona, he wears a t shirt and flat cap with the same ease as a three piece suit and owns it.

I love the look at the MTV movie awards this year when he teamed a pair of electric blue trousers with a black motor cycle jacket and black tee. Styled or not, he certainly pulled it off!
Gosling is a stylists dream, not only does he have a good physique and dashing looks he wears a suit with such elegance and charm but also there's something very "old school Hollywood " about him. Even in his new film Drive he is seen wearing a harrington jacket with driving gloves which has a touch of Steve McQueen about it.

"whats it all about"...

 At the weekend I watched possibly my all time favourite movie, Alfie staring the awesome Jude Law. And what may surprise you guys is I think the story sucks!! The reason for me making that statement is its as stylish as hell for which I'll explain...
 Set in down town New york city, Alfie Elkins explains his reason for crossing the pond as having the dream of striking gold and having an endless supply of women which you've got to admire right?! For me its all about Alfie's style ethos and how it makes the film. Even in the opening credits when the camera is scowering through his humble digs, you can see a smythson blondes, brunettes and red heads address book and aqua de parma colonge just showing how stylish this chracter is.
 I love this look in this scene where he has a sharp grey two button on, rayban avaitors and in hand the latest mens fashion magazines walking down the streets of Manhattan.
 This is how you wear a slim suit,shirt, tie combo. Not over doing it with a pocket square or a tie clip letting the contrast shirt and tie paired with the suit do the rest!
 I also love this part of the film when Alfie and Sienna Miller's chracter hit it off as she is his equal when it comes to fashion and style.
I've been thinking of re-creating this dress down look, I absolutley love it! Suede jacket, white vest and tailored trousers.

magic or tragic????

I saw these tassel loafers a while ago from none other than every womans dream best friend Christian Louboutin. For ages I tried to work out whether I liked them or not?  The excentric part of me would say a definate yes but the mature fashionista in me I've become says no all day long! I really appreciate the classic nature of a good looking and well made tassel loafer and I have friends both straight and gay that would be all over these, but for me its a strong no but its not to say that I dont cool because they so are! Each to their own I surpose?

Dream time pieces!

A bit of fun on a Thursday night I'm going to go through in my eyes (if money was no object) what I think the top watches are that I would gobble up if my numbers ever came in on the euro millions! As Ive explained  before Ive got a bit of a side passion for time pieces and as Ive matured with age so has my sense of appreciation for classic watches (I'm only 28!) here we have a few classics that I would move heaven and earth for to have in my dream world super duper watch vault!!
 If money was no object then vintage time pieces would be a must to spend big on as in most cases they would only go up in value, so if anyone has or finds a vintage watch on the cheap hang on to it for dear life as the expression 'they don't make them like they used to' is very true!!
                Just above we have a classic Rolex oyster and here we have this beauty, a Cartier rock.
 Now the  Tag Monaco has got to be one of my all time favourite watches but if you have the capital then get an original!
               How amazing would this vintage omega look with a dinner suit or your Sunday best?!
 Here we have the current big movers in the watch world in opinion, now some Audemar Piguets don't warrant some of the prices they demand to sit on your wrist but when you get one as good looking as this AP1041 there is no argument. The ultimate man in power watch!!
 The Rolex GMT master watch is my favourite Rolex as I think it looks as good with a suit as with your jeans and t shirt. David Beckham has been giving this the thumbs up for the past few years now and that guy is always changing his watches! lol.
 The next three watches Ive got my eye on .. the Panerai luminor, the Dior homme chrono and the Hublot luna rossa. All amazingly sexy watches but what one do I choose???!! The panerai's edging it at the moment.

A massive thank you for the support!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the support, feedback and follows for my blog and for my future men's styling venture! like I said in my mission statement I'm a regular guy who lives and breaths men's fashion and who hasn't been blessed with the contacts who can open doors with the click of their fingers. It means a lot to get any sort of support so once again thanks for your time.

The Chester Barrie way

 Underground in the underpass between monument tube station is the entrance to House of Fraser city store and what lies inside is a little gem, enter the saville row tailors Chester Barrie. Now I say little gem because to own a bespoke suit by these guys is running at around £795-£895 , now some may bulk but actually going to the row and to most tailors you will not find anything cheaper than £1800 starting for most plus the big brands on Bond st charge £700-£900 for off the peg suits. If your smart and shrewd, its a no brainer!!
 Now what you get with the made to measure service is you choose every single detail about the suit from the obvious, like colour and cloth type, lapel shape, double or single breasted to the the tiny little details like what type of inside pockets you want! That's pretty special and believe me after seeing a clients made to measure in the flesh the quality and attention to detail is unreal.
 Now the two guys that carry out this service Alfio and Andrew certainly know their stuff and the service and knowledge you'll receive is second to none so believe me when I say come and see these two gentleman for the ultimate bespoke experience outside of saville row.
                                                                      Myself and Alfio
                              POW check with a hint of sky blue being eyed up for a future creation!

The man who is polishing golden balls

 Alasdhair Willis just under a year ago was hired by David Beckham to become his 'creative consultant' ( I love the title!) which seemed to be a ploy by the Beckham brand camp to abolish the 'bling' styling tag attached Becks by some. For me Becks lost this tag when he ditched the diamond stud earrings, Jacob and co watches and the cornrow/ rocawear phase!! Now no one is perfect, and everyone has their fashion faux pas no matter how much money or how well connected they are, but for me in terms of formal wear I thought David was working it pretty well in Tom Ford, Paul Smith and Timothy Everest??
 I think its more of the case that Simon Fuller's Brand Beckham team and David himself maybe just wanted a little polish up on his formal gentleman look from Mr Willis. Now the media has it that this may be down to what David Beckham does after he hangs his boots up with films, TV and other ventures being mooted, but one things for sure the style icon that is David beckham is working with another in Alasdhair Willis.

 Alasdhair's style is simple but soooo effective!! Cream rain mac, Black roll neck, smart denim, three piece suit, crisp sky blue shirt and black lace ups. All these items could be part of any 30-40 year old gents capsule wardrobe and this just shows that with a little bit of know how and attention to detail its not impossible to pull it off! Oh and another reason why Mr Willis is one of my fashion icons is he like myself loves a knitted tie!!

 David Beckham after consultation with Willis in Ralph Lauren along with sleek hair, co-ordinating handkerchief with tie (but not matching!) and even a newly acquired taste for coloured socks!

The search begins....

 I think in the next few weeks I will begin my quest to find the ultimate vintage aviator jacket, for which when I do I intend to over the winter months wear it in to the ground!! Believe it or not I've been meaning to purchase one for a few years now and never got round to hunting for one. But the problem I have is now that thanks to Christopher Bailey at Burberry for making it one of the key trends for last winter, most decent vintage shops would of bumped the price up 100 % if I'm lucky! But that will not stop me as I cant see my casual winter wardrobe with out one just as long as it matches up with my vision as well as my budget!!

The Emmys - Best dressed (and worst!)

 Best dressed was a clear winner... Mad men star and current men's fashion icon Jon Hamm teaming up with Tom Ford in this double-breasted tux. Is there a better combination at the moment .. I think not!
 Now in the press and on other fashion blogs Wilmer Valderrama is getting a fair bit of stick for his Dior homme slim black suit and skinny tie combo. I on the other hand believe he pulls it off! OK the looks been done before and will properly get done again but its not the Oscar's and he isn't trying too hard like a long list of other stars that graced the red carpet on the night. For me its simple and effective and the buzz cut completes the look perfectly.
 Jeremy, Jeremy! I love you and your work as Ari Gold but as in the show not being able to knot your tie properly has let you down! OK as super agent Ari Gold the 'lazy' tie is key to his look but on the red carpet theres no excuse. Shame because he wears the big lapel tux really well.
 O.M.G! Seal what were you thinking??! I know the gigolo look was in last season but no excuse when your on the red carpet for a top awards ceremony. He also lost points for oiling his pecs LOL!
David Boreanaz was sporting the worst side parting I've ever seen on Sunday night, and believe me after being out a few times in Essex I've seen some shockers!

Overall I found it tough work to pick out some good work from the American stylists and leading men on Sunday evening, if any one wants to hire me for next year please do not hesitate though I wont come cheap!!!

Well played Mr Barlow

Well played Mr Barlow sir indeed! The take that lead singer and new x factor judge is discreetly looking stylish as he's been sifting through the wannabe pop stars on our screens over the last few weeks. First of all I'm loving the new lean, mean Gary and it just goes to show that a bit of effort in the gym and with your diet can do for you, also loving the short, back and sides with a bit of length and of course the stubs! But getting to the nitty gritty part of the styling which is pretty simple ; tailored jacket with t shirt or a grandad top. Simple but so effective when you team up a basic, slightly scoopy neckline t shirt with a Vivienne Westwood tailored jacket your on to A WINNER.

Sad, I know but I'm actually looking forward to the live shows to see how Mr Barlow wears a suit ....To be continued!!

My autumn / winter wish list

* Mulberry scotch grain holdall
My final item on my wish list for autumn / winter is the Mulberry scotch grain holdall. I've been eyeing this up for a while as a gym bag for work when I'm in brown or tan shoes and as a weekend bag. Obviously the bag wont come cheap but I also look at this as an investment! This bag is classic and for me I see myself with this when I'm 40/50 years old hopefully going for more weekends away than I am at the moment!!

My autumn / winter wish list

* H&M black driving gloves
I've been wanting a pair of these for the last few winters and was prepared to go for a pair of dents but after seeing H&M's offering which actually look a bit sleeker than the dents and cheaper, they get my vote.

My autumn / winter wish list

*  Kurt Geiger brown suede brogues
I actually want these to smarten up my casual look for winter with some slightly relaxed straight fit denim and knitwear.

My autumn / winter wish list

* Reiss paisley handkerchief
I love this paisley print from Reiss, I think its hard to find a paisley that doesn't look cheap but Reiss manage to pull it off with the colour combos which helps.
